Kundala Dam

Regarded as Asia's first arch dam, one gets a stunning view of the surrounding landscape from the top

One of Munnar's top tourist destinations, Kundala Dam was built in 1946 for the Pallivasal Hydroelectric Project. Cherry blossom trees add to the landscape. If it is the season when Neelakurunji flowers are in bloom, once every 12 years, you’ve just gotten even more lucky.

Kundala Lake has boating amenities for you to explore the entire stretch of the waterbody. You only need to decide if it is rowing or pedalling that appeals to you more for the process. There are rental options for Kashmiri shikara boats. Those who love nature can enjoy the dense foliage that take up space here with a view of the tea plantations around, boats on the lake and the cool breeze adding to the serenity.

The tall dam, colourful boats on the lake and dense forests make it ideal for photographers too. The slightly more adventurous can rent a coracle, bamboo raft or kayak.
